Ramsgate ramblings

I spent last Friday mooching around Ramsgate, where the boy comes from and a real hidden gem if you ask me.  The seaside resort - a fave of Queen Victoria, Van Gogh and JMW Turner, has a real kitsch, nostalgic kind of feel to it.

Like the rest of Thanet (Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs) you can almost smell and taste the candy floss from holidays gone by here;  before the old package holiday popped along and left places like Thanet with little else to fall back on. There has been a fair bit of rejuvenation to Ramsgate lately, seeing it get itself a spot as a secret commuter jewel in GQ magazine this month.

Trying super hard not to fall in while looking for a fish.

Lots of carpe diem-ing going on this weekend!

Cute little houses like these are all over the place in Ramsgate
Can't beat Ramsgate harbour in the sunshine...

Obviously not exclusive to Ramsgate, but the best door knocker I've ever seen

A few of the super kooky shops and cafés under the Ramsgate harbour arches

The Queen Charlotte - where the boy's Mum and Dad hang out

If this has whetted your appetite for a cheeky UK seaside break (and Thanet is still peachy in the winter) check out www.discoveryholidayhomes.co.uk

I'd recommend having a look in Broadstairs or Whitstable, and taking a day trip to Ramsgate and Margate

  2. Lovely photos - I do love the Great British seaside - shame Southampton doesn't quite fit the bill. Meanwhile, remind me to share a photo of our Brass Micky Mouse door knocker, you might find that's your favourite!
