A weeknight in the city: Coco Rio

I think it pays to be a little indulgent every once in a while, so on Monday, to cheer up a drizzly weeknight, we decided to try Coco Rio in Southampton for their much talked-up steaks.  Now, despite being a fairly recently converted, formerly lifelong vegetarian, I know a mean steak when i see one. The portions in Coco Rio were E.NORMOUS, and the chips were some of the best I've ever had. I'm getting a little dribbly just talking about it.

We managed to score an excellent 50% off just for being kind enough to show up on a Monday, which is how I would recommend you do it at Coco Rio. At £26.19 (specific hey) for a full price sirloin, and an extra £3.25 for the sauces, you're looking at quite a hefty price tag for a steak that, although was pretty fancy, wasn't the best I've had by a long shot. As a Monday night treat however, it's a fab choice.

The other quite brilliant thing about being in Bedford Place in Southampton on a Monday night, is the open mic night 'Monday Night Blues' at Orange Rooms. I CANNOT recommend this highly enough; the standard of singers and bands in there is just phenomenal, and with free entry and cheap house drinks (£2 house wines and bottles of beer) you can't go wrong. The only downside is that you usually have to wait 'til closer to midnight to hear from the house band and the really seasoned performers. It is so worth the wait and the sleepy, unproductive Tuesday morning though.

More chips and tips to follow.
