I’ve been a little bit jammy this week and managed to get myself to London two weekends on the trot, both times to see great exhibitions and even greater friends.
The first trip was to see the new John Constable exhibition at the V&A. I didn’t know much about old JC, but the exhibition was the most popular in London timeout magazine, so off we popped.
Interestingly, the Tate Britain is currently showing a collection of JMW Turner’s work; not such great chums with Constable by all accounts. Their rivalry was deep and bitter, and even saw them graffiti their own masterpieces in a bid to out-art each other. You can read a nifty introduction to the artists and their rivalry on the Guardian’s website. If you're at all interested in art, get yourself along to the Constable exhibition. The things he does with light and colour are out of this world - quite indescribable and impossible to reproduce in anything but the real thing. For £15 you're doing yourself an injustice by not going.

After getting ourselves thoroughly cultured, we found an amazing little restaurant round the corner from the V&A in South Kensington. It's called La Bottega and is really reasonable considering the cute spot and de-lish food.

Saturday was the turn of the V&A again, but this time we were off to the Wedding Dresses 1774-2014 exhibition. Worth noting at this point that neither Daniella or I are secret crazies who think this exhibition is more acceptable than going to wedding fairs without rings on our fingers. Definitely not. We also definitely didn’t come out with the design of our once-upon-a-time dresses in minute detail. No suree.
I also met up with the bro, at the end of his second week of working in the big smoke, Don Draper-ing it up in a fabulous ad agency. We went to a bar called The Draft House, at Tower Bridge - which I like to think of as a bit like the Leaky Cauldron (cheeky Harry P reference); you have to be looking for it to see it, and what is inside is pretty magic.
